A Day in the Life of a Radio Himal Host
1. The Writeup
RHV hosts spend countless hours thinking and making a plan and preparing material for every RHV episode that you listen to. And they continue to tweak and hone it until the very last moment. In this shot, Host Sheela Sainju is giving her last minute touches to the essay that is going live in a few minutes.
2. The Spontaeneous Creativity
Even with a lot of preparation and a good plan, things go wrong at the studio - Murphy's Law. Your CD of mp3's that you so diligently compiled suddenly does not work (The CD player is visible behind Host Khem Dahal's right hand) after you have already promised your listeners to play it; the song from the internet does not download on time (The monitor on right has an internet browser to play songs from the internet) and you are left thinking what to do next, or you press the wrong button somewhere (see the number of buttons on the control panel in the middle) and your voice is suddenly lost!
At other times, you are required to provide an extempore, just like that. In this shot, Host Prem KC has just asked Host Khem Dahal to speak for two minutes on "Bar Peepal Vivaha" and amazingly he produces a writeup ready to go in less than five minutes!
3. Life Inside the Studio
Its a small room and all four hosts are busy at work. Because its always a Saturday during our program, the studio is all ours for the entire period of the show! And that means, answering the door too (There are CCTVs located at the farthest end of the room, behind Host Prem KC where you monitor the door and there is a remote switch to open it on the control panel).
4. And the Happy Souls!
And after a job well co-ordinated, with carefully written passages and dilligent programming sprinkled with amazingly spontaneous creativity, the happy souls get together one last time for a celebratory picture until the next week when there comes a brand new Saturday to take you for yet another spin.
